CAREGIVER

A caregiver provides basic health care and/or help medical staff at the hospital for continuing treatment (medical and rehabilitation institutions, specialized institutions for social services, medical and social institutions) and in the community (hospices for terminally ill patients at home environment and in institutions for people with disabilities). Under the guidance of a doctor or health professional, the caregiver supports the person in dealing with his basic needs related to:

• taking medications correctly;
• feeding;
• hygiene
• movements;
• breathing;
• sleeping;
• relaxing;
• entertainment and communication;

REQUIREMENTS ABOUT THE POSITION

The applicant has to:
• be at the age of 18 or older at the time of the application;
• have completed primary education (8th grade);
• team-working skills;
 

The duration of a training for a caregiver is about 200 hours.

The program provides theoretical knowledge of anatomy and physiology, general and special patient care and ethical aspects of communication with the patient, his family and health professionals. Trainees gain practical skills related to the physical comfort of the patient, care of the hygiene, and of the room of the patient, palliative care.
