HOMECARE WORKER - Assistente Familiare

The homecare worker helps and assists elderly, sick and disabled. He has knowledge and expertise in various fields: communication and relational, food and home environment management. The homecare worker follow the patient in cleaning and personal hygiene, in dressing and eating when necessary. He should know how to facilitate the movement and displacement of the patient and how to listen, entertain and reassure him/her. In addition to taking care of the person, the homecare worker often manages the house, he is responsible of cleaning, hygiene, reorganization of the domestic environments, preparation of meals. The homecare worker may have to deal with paperwork and errand on behalf of the patient moving into the social and health context.

Types of services existing

 The homecare worker works only at the user home. There are different types of domestic works:

• Full-service - if the worker lives with the employer perceiving, in addition to the salary, room and board;
• Half-service - if he works, in the same family, at least 4 hours a day or 24 hours per week, when the service is not uniform in all days of the week;
• Hour work - if he works only few days a week, with a total time lower than 24 hours per week.

 

Formal requirements to access the position

To work as homecare worker directly employed by the families there are no necessary requirements. Many Italian towns consider as preferential criterion having attended a training program for homecare worker.
In the case of non-EU citizens is required to have a regular residence permit.

Language skills

Oral and written knowledge of Italian language.
